BRIDES2016 at the WTCC was steady selling from 10:00 – 4:00. Fabulous products offered by excellent Vendors. I talked to many brides serious about making choices and securing vendors. There were some great prospects and the coming weeks will determine if they are looking for my services. Both bridal shows do also attract their share of ladies out just seeing what is available and “kicking the tires” so to speak, but not ready to make any commitments. Sometimes it is hard to tell.
I featured “Marsala”, the colour of the year, in my booth this week. It is a fabulous fall shade, wonderful with ivory, cream and gold….very rich and luxurious.
Also this past weekend I spent time preparing for the largest of the 4 events I have this month, Halifax Chamber of Commerce Business Awards Gala taking place on January 28th at the World Trade & Convention Centre. This is a 60 table, 600 guest gala with a sparkling “Great Gadsby” theme. It will be gorgeous!
My work is in the detail. Joe and I spent hours gluing gold rhinestones to 120 votive holders. Cleaning out wax, washing, embellishing and repacking takes time. If you are prepared when you arrive, it shaves hours off the time to install. I received my bulk flowers last Friday and spent the evening processing. For this size of event, I have several dozen flowers arriving and when the flowers are trimmed, cleaned and dipped, I will leave them so they can rest and open gradually so by time I’m ready to make up 60 centrepieces Wednesday, the flowers are just about at peak so they will look their best on Thursday. This took a full day of preparation and it will take most of a day to assemble the centrepieces. We will then carefully packed the pieces in boxes, ready for delivery to the WTCC on the morning of the event. My excellent team is gathered and waiting to install this fabulous room.
Today I will be mustering linens needed for the room. This entails pulling out crates of chair covers, tablecloths, overlays, runners and napkins for the guest tables. When I completed the last event using these items, I had them professionally laundered and they were returned to their crates. This is the only way I can keep control, by doing things at the time with no procrastinating on cleaning and packing. I am then able to do last minute events if called upon. I always try to be at the ready.
Joe has been working at stripping down 2 crystal candelabras we will be using for stage décor at the dinner. They have been sitting in crates for some time and they absolutely need to be sparkling. This takes his expertise in tearing down, washing and reassembling. They look incredible when finished.
I’m off now to start my busy week. Stay tuned next week for photos from the Halifax Business Awards!
