Every encounter contributes from your grandmother, your mother, your sister, your daughter, from your coffee shop to your child care, from the housekeeper to the boardroom..........
International Women’s Day will be celebrated tomorrow, March 8, around the globe. http://www.internationalwomensday.com/About Here in Halifax, we will be celebrating at a breakfast featuring Joanne Thomas Yaccato. Ms. Yaccato is President and Founder of The Thomas Yaccato Group, a Toronto based consulting firm that has become known as Corporate Canada’s Gender Lens.
I joined the Centre for Women in Business (CWB) through Mount Saint Vincent University in the fall of 2014. The organization offers a wealth of knowledge and support to women in business. There are many networking events and courses held throughout the year, providing confidence, knowledge and a platform to forge lasting relationships in industry.
For the second year, Grand Central Events and Décor is a proud sponsor of this event, supplying décor for the breakfast. I will be setting up at the World Trade & Convention Centre today where 30 tables and 300 chairs await decoration. The colour scheme will be white and purple, typically associated with International Women’s Day. I am adding a touch of Spring with purple and yellow tulips and a large urn of flowers in white, purple and yellow for the stage. This is always an event I look forward to and I am honoured to be able to contribute a little to this day.
Take part tomorrow in any way you can. Reach out and shake the hand of a female colleague to let them know you have recognized how important they are. Phone the person looking after your children just to say thanks once again. We all too often take our freedom to express our opinions, our ability to work, and our independence for granted because we live in such an open and just society. Unless we have had to live under repressed conditions, we cannot begin to understand how very different our lives could be. Celebrate our country and all it offers our women and let’s celebrate each other for the amazing, significant, essential individuals we all are.
